She’s super freaky, the kind of girl you don’t take home to mother, aka day two of me at Indian Wells

Sorry for the long and probably confusing title (unless you know me then you probably agree with it). Just as I am about done going through my pictures and picking the best of them to share with you the players party starts at the Indian Wells Golf Resort, or something named similarly, which happens to be across the parking lot and driving range from where our hotel room is at the Esmerelda. In case you don’t get it, Super Freak is what they are playing currently. Actually, that has ended, they then played Funky Town and are now onto Stayin’ Alive……I think the band is totally confused as to how old these player are. Very few of them were alive when these songs were recorded and popular, not that they aren’t great jams, I am going to shut up now before they start playing something awful and I eat my words. Oh we’ve now moved onto Get Down Tonight.
So I will obviously be updating the song choices as I blog, unfortunately besides a pink light I can see all I can do is hear the players party.
Today was a cloudy day, yay for not being the sun’s bitch today. It was a bit cool, I kept having to put on and take off a light jacket I brought which, while was nice, resulted in no shirtless player practices. Oh well we can’t win them all.
Band has moved onto something I can’t place but is definitely still an 80′s or earlier hit
First up on the practice courts I visited with Janko Tipsarevic.
HEY LOOK WHO LEARNED HOW TO INSERT LARGER PICTURES!!! ME!!!! I’M AWESOME!!!!
Apparently the band took a break or something. I hear nothing from the players party.
Who wears short shorts (and was practicing with Tipsy)? Tomas Berdych wear short shorts (and practiced with Tipsy) and I thank you for that.
Next up I had a visit with Fernando Verdasco.
Oh boy……they are now playing YMCA.
As evidence by Fer cloudy not only means they wear shirts all the time but some in long sleeves.
Fer practiced with Jack Sock and it was 11 am so I guess 11 isn’t too early. Fer didn’t seem as happy as yesterday and that practice was at 1 pm. Hey some people just aren’t morning people, no one should force us, I mean them, to do mornings if they don’t want to, it’s just rude!
And of course with Fer we get Mr Cahill.
Get Down On It is the next choice by the band.
Maria Kirilenko was my next stop of the day.
When she finished up I was messing with my camera trying to see if the lens I used today was doing a better job. Thankfully it was, I also got some tips from a friend, Brian, who I met watching Kiri practice a few years ago at Indian Wells. He started singing the chorus of Dethklok’s song Murmaider (youtube video of the song if you are interested) upon seeing my mermaid tattoo. That’s a sure fire way to make fast friends with me.
Players party band now playing We Are Family followed by Dancing Queen. Based on the picture Brad Gilbert tweeted of his wife with Austin Powers I am going to say the band is not out of touch with the players but there is an obvious theme to the party. And Janko is right in his twitter post about it being cold out there. You couldn’t pay me to go back outside right now (it’s 9:20 pm).
As I was saying Kiri finished up and suddenly there were people sitting RIGHT next to me. I am not used to this I tend to be at practices that aren’t as popular and therefore you have some nice personal space. I look up and Caroline Wozniacki is on the court.
From there I made my way to the grassy area to see who was playing ball, stretching, running, working out and things like that while the masses were watching Rafa and then Roger Federer and Tommy Haas and I was not about to try to work my way into that crowd.
The band has now played two more songs I haven’t identified and at this point I don’t even really notice it anymore.
There was a bit of activity on the grass. Here’s what I captured.
Nole being bent and bendy.
I don’t know about you but I think my back would really appreciate this.
This one I will skip thank you very much.
Let’s all try this one together, step one.
And now continue.
And for the rest of us let’s go ahead and yell for help now.
A song from Saturday Night Fever and now That’s The Way I Like It.
Also on the grassy area I saw Andrea Petkovic, who I believe I heard Nole call or at least mention Petkorazzi.
I did catch Tommy Haas coming out to practice.
I then took a lap around the practice courts and found Juan Monaco and Andy Murray practicing together.
Then I made my way into the main stadium to watch a match. I ACTUALLY WATCHED A WHOLE MATCH. I don’t do much match photography, I really suck at it, but I had to take some evidence of being there. I went to watch Marcel Granollers and David Nalbandian. Nalbandian won 6-4 6-2. The first 3 games took half an hour, a lot of deuces, a few games later Marcel lost the plan and things went pretty well for Nalbandian as he pretty much cruised to the victory.
Anyone who knows me knows I HATE bananas. Just gross. What makes this picture even worse for me is the change over after this one Marcel changed his shirt. Hmmmm what would I rather see and especially photograph, someone, anyone eat a banana or Marcel change his shirt? MARCEL CHANGING HIS SHIRT!!!! Oh well.
Band played another song or two and is on a break again. There is probably something else going on that my ears cannot hear from this far away.
After the match it got darker and then the sun came out for a few minutes and then it got a bit dark to take good pictures and it got windy and with the wind it started to look foggy but it wasn’t foggy it was sand blowing. Ah the desert can be so much fun. Before leaving for the day I was able to snap the following people, not the best but better than nothing.
Juan Martin del Potro
I got finish my day with Tommy Robredo. It was cold and windy and he showed up and played in his hooded sweatshirt for a few minutes.
Then the sun came out for a few minutes and he had warmed up so the sweatshirt came off.
Pretty quickly after that the sun set behind the mountain and off came the sunglasses as well.
I was going to try to stick around for Feliciano Lopez versus Ernests Gulbis but it was REALLY windy and the cold went right through you. My ride was leaving and so I went as well. I did have the option of staying and taking a shuttle back to the hotel but I wouldn’t have lasted long, the match before hand was just starting the second set and I did not have anywhere near enough layers to not freeze my little ass off. On the plus side, this post would not have gotten done if I had went to that match. Plus two matches in one day for me, nearly unheard of.
I shall leave you now, the players party band is still playing….we were just At the Car Wash and now we are on a Fantastic Voyage. That seems like a pretty good order of doing things to me. I shall not be doing either of those right now, time for me to eat some more food, maybe take a trip down to the lobby see if anyone staying here is arriving back from the party and then try to get more sleep than I did last night.
